Who We Are
For four decades, members of the Sonoran Arts League (formerly the Cave Creek Craft Council) continue to believe that artistic awareness is essential to life and community.
A dynamic group of 520+ artists and volunteers, the League VISION is to be the premier art organization that supports and serves our community by nurturing a culture of creativity through education, events, and activities that connect the arts to the human spirit. Natalie Nai-che, President, Board of Directors wants you to know that “We encourage the involvement of volunteers in all areas of our organization. Volunteering is the perfect way to feel connected to your community. Our organization welcomes volunteers who are amateur artists, professional artists and non-artists who love the arts who have skills from all areas of life and business. The volunteers who offer their time and support help our organization advance the artistic awareness in our communities. Organizations like ours cannot function without the energy and input of our volunteers.”
SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS – To foster artistic growth, since 2003, the League has recognized the artistic abilities of young artists and awarded scholarships to graduating seniors from local high schools pursuing studies in the arts. A 2012 recipient remarked, “My hope is to major in marketing and minor in art. I want to channel my creativity into the influential world of marketing... I know that if I'm able to sharpen my skills, my artwork and creativity can be a very effective way of getting a point across and inspire others. I look forward to putting my passion for art into what I do by taking what I learn in my college art classes and making a positive difference through my artwork.”
INCENTIVE AWARDS – To foster artistic growth, the League recognizes hundreds of local school children who show exceptional interest in art and awards them with incentive bags filled with art books and supplies at the annual Celebration of Art at the Cactus Shadows Fine Arts Center.
ART EXPERIENCES – To foster artistic growth, the League organizes annual student field trips to area museums. Comments from the 2013 sprint trip to Scottsdale Contemporary Museum of Art ranged from “I learned how to read art to help determine what message the art piece expressed.” to “It definitely got the creative ideas flowing for my own work.” And the League coordinates the YouthArt Exhibition which features artwork by local students in Studio #1 of the annual Hidden In The Hills Studio Tour. www.HiddenInTheHills.org
SUMMER ART INSTITUTE "Foothills Art Academy"– To foster artistic growth, the Sonoran Arts League provides an environment where creative individuals with similar interests, values and goals form alliances that benefit their work and support the community through education programs. Recognizing that collaboration makes us stronger, the league is pleased to partner with Education & Community Services, a division of CCUSD in bringing to the community art classes in a variety of mediums.
